Mufasa found the woods to be peaceful. An escape from the oddities, and the hustle and bustle, of the little town he had been calling home. It reminded him of his much quieter, simpler life in the Pridelands. They were a large Kingdom, true enough, but when he wanted to, when he needed it, there were so many plains and forests to get lost in. Go hunting in. Wander through just to clear his head. The honking horns and buzz of electronics in this place made it too loud on the streets for a quiet thought to make it through.
The forest, though, was still. There was nothing there to really distract him.
At least, that was what he thought. He didn't know that there was actually a band of people living there, or that many of the denizens of the town went in there for similar reasons. Plus there was a little cabin that he spotted while wandering, so clearly people came out here sometimes. It had been empty at the time, though, and he did not intrude where he was not invited, so he left it alone.
He was sitting on an outcropping of rocks, feeling at home there most of all. This had become his favorite spot so far, on a hill overlooking a quiet clearing down below. He could see the buildings of the town in the distance, never too far away, but even they looked more charming and welcoming from here. His castle had been built on a rocky cliff, a natural mountain of stone.
This place was a mystery to him, and he did not put a lot of effort into figuring it out. He did not want to remain here, not any longer than he absolutely had to. Still, he saw and heard things going on, things that seemed like they needed help with. His noble heart told him not to get involved, not to invest his time and energy here, but he could not ignore instincts so naturally ingrained in him. If someone was in trouble, it was his duty to aid them. This place had too much darkness in it, and it was likely an extra hero was always needed around town.
